I would agree with Steve D - a significant portion of this blog is dedicated to self promotion which undermines any potential value

Wow... I don't want to get slaughtered either, but... :)

I'll look forward to pulling the trigger on that audio book...

I believe in the concept Mr. Blount outlines regarding people's perception of salespeople. I'm an inside salesperson who specializes in identifying, qualifying, and driving opportunities for field sales to close. My role requires a lot of calling... calling guys who get too many phone calls and are loathe to take focus away from a difficult, overdue, over budget project to deal with yet another sales call. The irony is that at some point this guy is going to be highly focused on dealing with a major problem that I can help him fix. What I wish I could intimate to all of those guys is how aweful I feel about the "sameness" of it all... it MUST be boring, because we DO all say the same things. For my part, I've got to stumble upon, annoy, interupt, distract, and spam 100 guys to find the one that needs what I have. Then I can deliver a useful product, win a commission, pay my mortgage and buy my wife something nice, right? I'm not really much different than the IT guy I'm calling... it just happens that in a peculiar cosmic twist, we happen to be squarely juxtaposed for a living!

The possibility that Blount is onto something that could help me diminish the irritation I bring to the 100 guys that don't have time to talk to me is highly worthwhile, and I'll investigate further.

While you articulately point out what in my mind amounts to an existential irony, apparantly I'm that 101st guy that's seen the value proposition and is interested in engaging the topic.

Nice thing about social networks is that we're here because we want to be, right?

I'm going to take the "Devils Advocate" position here (and likely get slaughtered). Although I totally agree with the comments made, I'd like to note that 27% of this post (blog) is self serving advertising, and is a good example of why some find sales people boring. That advertising (self promotion) completely negates the value of the content. It basically says to the reader that the only purpose in saying what has been said, the way it has been said, is to convince you to buy something from me. More effective use of Social Media techniques are needed here.
